Position Summary

The University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medical Services Consortium, is seeking part-time Paramedics. The successful applicants will respond to state wide emergencies under the supervision of the EMS Medical Direction Consortium. They will work to support the EMS Academy and EMS Consortium through remote on site clinical care and education. The individuals will be responsible for primary advanced life support patient care directly supporting EMS Consortium contracts.

This position requires a minimum of three stand-by (on-call) shifts monthly with the ability to respond for up to 12-hours per call out.

Paramedics attend emergency medical requests as they arise; render on-site emergency assistance to patients as required. Our team performs or assists in the initial assessment and management of illness or injury to emergency patients in accordance with specified protocol and procedure. Prepares or assists in the preparation of patients for transport, ensuring compliance with emergency medical transport regulations, protocol, and procedure. Provides or assists in the provision of basic direct patient care, as required in each individual case. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Inspects emergency medical equipment to ensure serviceability and compliance with safety and infection control regulations and standards. Completes and transfers patient care information and records as per established procedures. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.Certification/LicensureNM licensure as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • National Registry Paramedic
  • 3 years directly related EMS experience
  • Specialized education and training
Additional RequirementsCandidates for this position must be eligible for employment as verified by the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA); those individuals on the OIG/GSA Exclusion Lists will not be considered for hire. Once hired, periodic checks will be made for eligibility of continued employment.
